WHAT DO YOU SELL AND WHAT GOT YOU INTO YOUR CRAFT?
I make jewellery made from ecofriendly sterling silver and by using ecofriendly methods such as chemical-free alternatives to the usual chemicals involved in the process. I’ve always been a ‘hands-on’ type and used to sketch, paint, sew, collage etc. but gradually I got more and more into jewellery making. At first, I made gemstone jewellery and when more and more people asked if they could buy my pieces, I knew I could begin to start making it into a business. My passion developed into silversmithing and so I taught myself everything I know which is an amazing feeling!

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE LONDON LOCAL TEAM?
The London Local Team was created by myself, Melodie and Becky who joined 3 existing London teams together to make a big strong one. What I love about being a captain is being able to help people or coordinate the help. It’s such a wholesome feeling to know that I might have helped someone get one step closer to their hopes and dreams. I’ve made so many new friends and I love that we are such a supportive team that’re all working through the same obstacles together.

WHEN I’M NOT CRAFTING I’M…
Cooking, doing yoga or usually London Local admin!

DO YOU HAVE A FUN FACT OR UNUSUAL TALENT?
I can do headstands indefinitely (…or until I have no blood left in my feet!)

WHAT DO YOU SELL AND WHAT GOT YOU INTO YOUR CRAFT?
I design, cut and make leather jewellery. All my products are sustainable and eco-friendly because they are made from reclaimed leather. After working in the footwear industry for a few months, I realised how much good quality leather was wasted. All the off-cuts went into the bin even though there was nothing wrong with them except for their size. That’s when I decided to act and had the idea to turn these unwanted bits into beautiful jewellery. I was already trained in leatherwork and just used my skills towards making jewellery.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE LONDON LOCAL TEAM?
As a design-maker, you spend most of your time alone and after a while that became a little depressing to me. I’m an extrovert so I  need contact with others to get energy and inspiration. Being part of a team is great for that.

Also, living in London, I felt like I needed to start making my own opportunities. London is an expensive city and markets, pop-ups and co-working spaces are not always accessible to small businesses that are starting out. I thought there was probably a way to create affordable opportunities in London, open to crafters starting out.

WHEN I’M NOT CRAFTING I’M…
Spending time with my boyfriend and my cat Fudge, drinking lots of delicious tea. I do lots of DIY, especially refurbishing furniture. Going on walks around London and going out with friends.

DO YOU HAVE A FUN FACT OR UNUSUAL TALENT?
I used to work for a Fetish Shoe Company and I can “walk” in 6” high stilettos.

WHAT DO YOU SELL AND WHAT GOT YOU INTO YOUR CRAFT?
I design and decorate bone china tableware. I studied Ceramic Design before becoming a freelance Product Designer. As much as I love designing, I really started to miss being hands on and making, so I bought myself a kiln so I could create my own china patterns.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE LONDON LOCAL TEAM?
I found out about the London Local team through the Etsy Craft Party in the summer. I wasn’t able to attend so when I found out the team were planning meet ups and events I was really keen to get involved. I have been a freelance designer for 9 years, 6 of which were with a team. In the past 3 years I have worked more for my clients from home and have managed to put some of my time into my own designs. However it does get lonely, so the team is ideal for meeting fellow designer makers and to share the trials and tribulations of flying solo and wearing all the hats in a business.

WHEN I’M NOT CRAFTING I’M…
walking my dog Ham, drinking tea, eating or thinking about what to eat.

DO YOU HAVE A FUN FACT OR UNUSUAL TALENT?
Knowing when my husband has eaten a biscuit/chocolate behind my back.

IF YOU SEE ME AT A MEETING ASK ME ABOUT…
Social media or dogs

WHAT DO YOU SELL AND WHAT GOT YOU INTO YOUR CRAFT?
I do both bespoke illustration and ready to buy work, like cards. I’ve always thrived on creativity. But after I got married, I built my brand, Shoshy Cadoodle, after realising how underserved the LGBT community is, in terms of appropriate wedding/anniversary cards. I love to laugh and anything adorable; so as well as LGBT specific things, I focus on all that is cute or giggle-worthy. These are the things that can appeal to anyone regardless of their sexuality, for example my Oh My Dog range!

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE LONDON LOCAL TEAM?
Becoming a freelancer was a little daunting as I didn’t know many other people who had done it. There were all sorts of things I was apprehensive about and wanted to build a support network and make friends. The team has given me all of that and more.

WHEN I’M NOT CRAFTING I’M…
At a little independent cinema or art gallery; doing pilates/at the gym; making YouTube videos or in America visiting my wife’s family.

DO YOU HAVE A FUN FACT OR UNUSUAL TALENT?
Fun fact, my cat is called Monkey Pup, she’s absolutely adorable and a little rascal if food is involved! She’s known for her thieving cheese sandwich skills.

IF YOU SEE ME AT A MEETING ASK ME ABOUT…
New York; anything LGBT related; YouTube or cats… Or tell me about fun, quirky things to do in London!

WHAT DO YOU SELL AND WHAT GOT YOU INTO YOUR CRAFT?
I design a range of unique typographic and geometric prints. I've been in the graphic design industry for over 10 years, and have a passion for typography and colour. I’m not an interior designer, but I’ve always been inspired by everything to do with home decor. Inspired by my interest in typography, I combined it with my passion for home decor and decided to establish Made by Aiza.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE LONDON LOCAL TEAM?
I had been keeping an eye out on active London Teams for a while, and I came across the team that Emma had started. I wanted to meet like-minded people and be more involved in the craft community, so I was very happy when I found London Local! Everyone in this community is so friendly and resourceful. I’ve learned a lot and looking forward to discovering lots more from fellow team members.

WHEN I’M NOT CRAFTING I’M…
cooking or eating, or browsing through blogs for inspiration.

DO YOU HAVE A FUN FACT OR UNUSUAL TALENT?
I can eat an unlimited amount of chicken wings and never get full.

WHAT DO YOU SELL AND WHAT GOT YOU INTO YOUR CRAFT?
My main focus is reflective knitwear, but I also sell fun and vibrant jewellery. I studied Product Design at CSM (central Saint martins) and found I was always gravitating towards products and ideas that used materials and textures in new and exciting ways. Being an avid cyclist myself, I wanted reflective garments that acted as a safety element at night, but that didn’t look too garish or  unsightly during the day. I ended up buying my own spinning wheel and knitting machine, and designing my own reflective collection! The jewellery came later as a fun and colourful way to turn the watercolour sketches I often do in my free time into wearable pieces of watercolour art. Therefore I guess always being curious, and interested in processes is what got me into my craft!

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE LONDON LOCAL TEAM?
I had just started working seriously on my reflective knitted collection, and wanted to be part of a group who were also as enthusiastic and committed to their craft as I was. I happened to fall onto the team page on Etsy one day when I was looking for a local team, and started attending the meetings which were always very engaging and inspiring.

WHEN I’M NOT CRAFTING I’M…
Often found doing watercolour sketches, walking the dogs or making a fresh lemon tart from scratch! I also love taking pictures of textures when in Cornwall on the beach.

DO YOU HAVE A FUN FACT OR UNUSUAL TALENT?
Being very interested in how things are made, I can often tell how a product has been manufactured/made by looking at it!

IF YOU SEE ME AT A MEETING ASK ME ABOUT…
Manufacturing processes or yarn!
