TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

I was born and brought up in the beautiful country, Tanzania. Home to Serengeti, Mt Kilimanjaro and various national parks! I moved to London in 2014 to join my husband. My hobbies are sewing bags, painting, calligraphy and travelling. I also like to bake too! I also like to DIY, so when I am not making things I will be drilling into the wall to hang things or trying design our little flat.

Sparkly Bridal Clutch - I love making these clutch bags in so many different colourways for brides to be! At first it was hard because I wasn't sure how I would cut letters as I didn't have a cutting machine of some sort, so I sat down and I created a grid of tiny squares and drew out all the letters on an A4 sheet and cut them out. Now I just trace around them and I am good to go!

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED ON ETSY?

I started on Etsy properly in January 2016, but six months before that I was working part time for a retail store on Oxford Street. One day I was pushed over by a commuter when I was going to work, and injured my knee. It was a tough time, and I wasn't enjoying my job too. So I decided to resign and give myself some headspace to think about it. Christmas was around the corner and I started to make some Christmas ornaments. I sold them at a private fair and people asked me if I used Etsy. I didn't was my answer so I really needed to get myself on it after Christmas and New Years. I decided to make Etsy my full time job, and even then for the next six months after launching I was finding it hard to work on SEO's and keywords and getting my little shop noticed. I love how Etsy has given that foundation for all makers and designers to sell their products on it. I still don't have a website but for now I want to enjoy Etsy and become better at my keywords, photography and tags!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DESIGN/MAKING PROCESS:

I usually don't have a plan of what I intend to do, most of it is visualised in my head. Sometimes I may draw pictures if it requires me to do a complex task and sometimes I will make a prototype before I make the final piece. I love using different fabrics, such as heavy embroidered fabric from India, which also displays my roots and has a cultural aspect. I love shiny things, so recently, most of my Etsy shop has been bombarded with sparkly arm candy. I also make garlands for Nurseries and my Christmas tree garlands with pompoms were a huge sell out last year so I will definitely be making more of those - I suppose from August since I need to make many of them!

The cute Watermelon coin pouch. Store your cards, lip balms, coins and hang it on your key ring when you are popping out to get something.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

My favourite thing about running my own business is that I have the whole flat to myself and I can basically either be in my PJ's or be dancing about, or be covered in glitter and have no one judge me! I sometimes walk to the post office with a few sparkles on my face, but thats what I love - I am my own boss! I also love making the things, and love working on custom orders, especially bags for brides and bridesmaids.

WHEN AND WHY DID YOU JOIN THE TEAM?

I joined the team at the end of 2015, to get to know other makers and designers who sell on Etsy. I also joined to get an useful information shared on the private Facebook group - its really helpful when you don't understand much about Etsy. I would like to thank the leaders and captain of the group for their patience dealing with beginners like me! Thanks so much for your help!
