TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:
I am an Italian artist based in London. I moved here about one year ago and I am trying to run my own business as an artist. During weekend I love to go to museums and galleries and to have relaxing walks in the parks around the city.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED ON ETSY?
Although I opened an account many years ago, I never used it to sell. In 2015 I decided to seriously start an online business through Etsy (I was already selling online on Saatchi Art), and to create an affordable gallery of tiny art pieces. I love the fact that Etsy can give you a wider audience and also I was able to collaborate with other artists that discovered my art through this online portal. On the other side, Etsy is a huge place and your “voice” can easily get lost into this amazing sea of creative people. But never give up!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR DESIGN/MAKING PROCESS:
Everything started in 2013, when I bought a big lot of vintage photos and postcards from eBay, because I’ve always loved to collect things as found stuff in any kind of material. Once I had hundreds of vintage photos in my hands too, I just thought: why don’t put my collected stuff on to them? So I started to play around with collages. The results satisfied me so much, I felt really good and I didn’t want to stop. With my collages I like to create double meanings, play with words and I really love to quote songs, books or movies that I love. I work on vintage and found images creating freaky handmade collages. I consider myself as a “photo and video archival parasite”, but with no bad intentions. I draw portals on old photos, postcards and vinyl covers, because I believe that in some way they can allow me to travel in time and space. Every work is basically composed of three elements: my personal life background, my inspirations and subconscious, that is also the glue that puts all together.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
I love to be able to organise my daily tasks and priorities and of course, stay in touch to clients, art lovers and other artists sharing a mutual passion with them.
WHEN AND WHY DID YOU JOIN THE TEAM?
I join the team last year, I wanted to understand better how the London designer and makers world runs, and also how the art market works in this area. I also found extremely useful to join in to the FB group. I found a lot of helpful tips and kind people that helped so much. I am very grateful to this group!
