Friday Feature - 24.03.17
As part of our Meet the Maker series on our blog, we have created Friday Feature. Every Friday we will feature a team member and their Etsy shop, to give you a quick glance behind the scenes and discover more about our diverse team members.
Friday 24 March, 2017 – Elviravv Designs
Name: Elvira van Vredenburgh
Location: Muswell Hill, North London
Etsy Shop: ElviravvDesigns
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:
I am originally a printed textile designer. Last year I decided to start using my designs on my own products, so opened my shop on Etsy. I still have a textile agent, so spend most of my week designing samples for her. I spend one to two days on Elviravanvdesigns. I work from home where I have a small office/studio. I live in Muswell Hill with my husband, daughter, dog and cat.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED ON ETSY?
I started with just one Valentines card and having seen lots of lovely Etsy things on Pinterest thought it would be a good place to start. It has taken me a while to get to grips with it, but being part of the LoLo team has really help. My sales were really good over Christmas and have continued into the new year. I love that that it reaches people worldwide, I’ve had several orders from the States and one from Australia. It is challenging fitting it in with my work for my agent but such a thrill when I get a sale.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR DESIGN/MAKING PROCESS:
I start my sketching ideas out in pencil, then scan them in to work on them on Adobe Illustrator, that’s where the colour comes in. I usually do my designs as greetings cards first to get a reaction from them. If they work then I start to think about putting them on other products.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
I like being able to work from home as my daughter is still quite young so I can choose my own hours and always catch up on things in the evening. It’s also really good being able to make the decisions and be in charge of your own destiny.
WHEN AND WHY DID YOU JOIN THE TEAM?
I joined LoLo in May/June 2016 for support and advice. It’s great being part of a team.
